My Priorities
I am a firm believer that effective board members bring their different experiences, talents, domain knowledge, perspective, and passion to the board table but leave their “To Do” lists at home so they will be open to doing the most important work we can do as a board to support the district at the moment instead of focusing on what they came to the board to do. Having said that, my tenure on the board has given me some insight into some of the important challenges this board will face in the next three years. Here are my priorities:
Priority #1
My first priority will always be the safety of our children. I was determined to make sure that the 2024 referendum project list included the recommended upgrades to our physical security measures. I will always put safety first.
Priority #2
My second priority is increasing the literacy of our students. I do not believe that standardized test tell the whole story, but in order to secure a healthy future for our community, we must do better in executing our mission. The district has a plan, new reading curriculum, new math curriculum, and the mandate to elevate our students. We, as a board, must make sure they succeed in this effort.
Priority #3
School consolidations are significant transitions that impact students, teachers, and families. I am committed to holding the district accountable to its promises. This means ensuring that consolidations lead to improved facilities that enhance the learning experience and providing transparent communications throughout the process.
Priority #4
As our current Superintendent looks towards retirement I will focus on succession and working with my fellow board members to ensure that we find a talented individual who is devoted to our students and our community. In order to make consistent progress towards our strategic goals, we need consistent, quality leadership.
